Head and Neck Tumors

The head and neck is perhaps the most anatomically complex area in the human body. Due to the variety of anatomy and the different functions served by the different head and neck sub-sites, a wide variety of disease processes and tumors are seen. Tumors can arise in many different sub-sites, including but not limited to the skin, upper aerodigestive tract, salivary glands, and endocrine glands. Unfortunately the incidence of head and neck malignancy is on the rise. Many factors have contributed to this increase, including but not limited to tobacco use, alcohol use, ultraviolet light exposure, human papilloma virus (HPV) infection, and genetic factors. Head and neck tumors can present with many signs and symptoms, but some of the more common ones include palpable growths that may or may not be tender, swallowing difficulties, voice changes, sores or lesions that don't seem to heal, and other generalized symptoms like fatigue, weight loss, and loss of energy. If you have one or more of these signs and symptoms, it is important that you be seen by an otolaryngologist for a complete and thorough evaluation.

Here at Northwest ENT Associates, we are fortunate to have three highly qualified surgeons who have extensive experience in the surgical management of a wide variety of head and neck tumors- Dr. Ludwig Allegra, Dr. Sunil Ummat, and Dr Nilesh Shah.

Specific tumors that we can address include thyroid and parathyroid tumors, parotid and submandibular gland tumors, upper aerodigestive tract tumors, skin tumors, and cancers that have spread to the neck lymph nodes. We have pioneered techniques which allow most surgeries to be performed on an outpatient basis. Our experience level with many types of tumors rivals that of any institution in the country.
